The new 2022 Nissan Murano – midsize SUV will arrive this year, but will we see significant changes? The last full-redesigned Murano was introduced in 2015, and it took much attention. However, in 2019, the manufacturer brought some minor refresh to this SUV, including LED exterior lighting, new wheels, and a more premium feel inside with quilted leather seating.

The most exciting news back then is that Nissan Safety Shield 360 driver assistance system became standard on all versions, including the base one. To our knowledge, the new 2022 Murano will represent the fourth generation of this model and comes completely redesigned.

Exterior

This Nissan SUV features an attractive and boxy appearance with interesting details. Since 2015, Nissan uses the same “floating roof” and Nissan’s “V-Motion” front end design. However, for 2022, most changes include updated LED headlights, taillights, and more wheel options. For example, S and SV models come with 18-inch wheels, while SL and Platinum get 20-inch wheels.

Although some sources state that it will not get significant exterior changes, the always well-informed Edmunds expects a complete redesign for the 2022 Nissan Murano. So, they state that when it comes to exterior redesign we can expect a lot of similarities with the Aria model. This really makes a lot of sense. The front end of Nissan’s new electric crossover is very similar to the Murano model.

Although this electric crossover is much smaller, we can say with certainty that the new 2022 Murano will have many similarities with it in terms of design.

Interior

The 2022 Nissan Murano comes in the form of a two-row seater, offering seats for five passengers and 67 cubic feet of cargo space. However, many competitors can carry more, and some offer third-row of seats. The latest Murano features an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, four USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The base model also comes with active safety technology, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, and front and rear automatic emergency braking. However, more amenities are available on the top two trims, SL and Platinum. Both models are offering navigation and an 11-speaker Bose sound system. The Platinum is the most expensive trim level, and it comes with plenty of luxury. The package includes diamond-quilted semi-aniline leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

Our expectations are that the 2022 Nissan Murano will come with a completely redesigned interior. The interior will be simple, minimalist and with a small number of buttons. Some sources state that the control panel will not have a single button.

Generally speaking, we expect much better-towing capacity because it is for now stuck at 1,500 pounds, far lower than other vehicles in the same segment.

Powertrain Details

Under the hood, the Murano uses a familiar 3.5-liter V6 that produces 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. This is a very good powertrain that does not lag behind the new generation engines in any way. For the new 2022 Nissan Murano, we expect powertrains that will be far more economical. There is also speculation about a hybrid engine, but this is completely unverified information for now.

The current mill comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission using front wheels as standard. All-wheel drive is available as well as optional on all Murano trims.
