The 2023 BMW X1 is an upcoming subcompact SUV that will be refreshed for the following year. If you didn’t know, the BMW X1 is the brand’s most affordable offering in the expansive luxury stable of SUVs. This SUV is recognized thanks to its compact styling and the kidney grille that’s flanked by a handsome light signature.
Compared to rival Audi Q3, the BMW X1 is almost the same size. However, it’s still bigger than the Volvo XC40 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. Like the model before, the new one will continue to use the same sole engine option. The current model is powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2023 BMW X1 Redesign
The spy shots of the 2023 BMW X1 are available, and the forthcoming SUV looks refreshed. From information that we got, the next generation model will be built on the same UKL2 platform that will be used on the upcoming X2, 2 Series Active Tourer MPV, and every other front-wheel drive model.
At first glance, the spied BMW X1 is more aggressively looking compared to previous scooped prototypes. The new model is wearing a more stylish kidney grille that’s flanked by a handsome light signature. We also noticed that it has bigger wheels, a different front bumper, and a new quad exhaust pipe.
Interior Upgrades
Despite its small UKL2 platform, shared with the upcoming X2, the 2023 BMW X1 offers a very spacious cabin. Although, you cannot expect it to come with a luxurious interior like its chief rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, but you can count on some high-quality materials inside. As we mentioned, the X1 model is the cheapest in the BMW lineup, and interior luxury is a bit lacking. Inside, you’ll find two roomy rows of seats and one of the biggest cargo capacities in its class. As standard equipment, this SUV includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen iDrive infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and a 7-speaker audio system.
Safety is also on the highest level, and with this model you’ll get a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
2023 BMW X1 Engine Specs
Beneath the hood, the 2023 BMW X1 will use a sole engine option. This model comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that’s capable of producing 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft of torque. It’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing smoother shifting.
In general, there is no need for an engine update because this engine still handles excellent with punchy acceleration and good fuel economy, even when equipped with all-wheel drive. Additionally, the current model is EPA city/highway rated at 24/33 mpg (FWD), 23/31 mpg (AWD). The high-performance model M135i xDrive is expected to be offered as well, and it should produce around 350 horses.
2023 BMW X1 Release Date, Price
Based on previous released, we’re expecting the 2023 BMW X1 to hit showrooms sometime next year. Most likely, it will go on sale in late 2022. As we mentioned, a spied prototype has been caught testing at the Nurburgring, and its body is fully camouflaged.
Despite some small changes and updates, the pricing of the upcoming subcompact SUV will remain unchanged. The current model has a starting price of $35,400 for the sDrive28i model, while the all-wheel-drive xDrive28i model costs $37,400. That means the BMW X1 is in the same ballpark with the Audi Q3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class models.
