The new 2023 Volvo XC40 has been facelifted quietly, and we can expect it to debut in September. So, if you’re seeking for a SUV that has playful exterior styling, thoughtfully designed interior, and many standard driver-assistance tech, this model is definitively worth waiting for. As its predecessor, the new version offers all the things that you need from modern Volvo, with a unique charm.

According to Volvo, the XC40 will continue to be powered by the same entry-level 184-hp turbocharged four-cylinder that wears the T4 badge. However, you can still get an optional and more powerful T5 model, which offers 248 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive. On top of that, the XC40 includes many drivers assists just like higher-end Volvo models.

2023 Volvo XC40 Changes

We don’t expect any major changes to be visible on the 2023 Volvo XC40. With the exception of new color and trim choices, the forthcoming model will receive a slight facelift on the front and rear fascia. We love the styling, which seems to be sleeker and more modern. We must say that the look of this SUV changes a bit depending on which trim you go with.

For example, the R-Design trim is great option if you prefer sportier look, while the Inscription trim offers more luxurious aesthetic. The size of this SUV is pretty small, resulting in very easy parking. Compared to other models, the XC40 is little smaller than the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Lexus UX. However, it’s about the same size as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.

Stylish Interior

Inside, a few changes are visible on the facelifted version. First of all, the Swedish manufacturer added more quality materials, making the small XC40 look luxurious. The cabin is truly upscale, providing a great vibe even in the base Momentum trim. As is the case with bigger siblings XC60 and XC90, the XC40 is very functional inside. This model doesn’t offer the third row of seats, but its spacious cabin allows up to five passengers to sit comfortably. Volvo designers made the cabin even flashier on the Momentum and R-Design trims.

On both models you will get textured metallic inlays and rectilinear vents with floating chrome adjusters. On the technologies side, Volvo’s latest Sensus Connect infotainment system is available and is paired with a 9.0-inch touchscreen. Volvo also offers plenty of driver-assistance tech, including automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode.

2023 Volvo XC40 Engine Specs

Under the hood, the latest 2023 Volvo XC40 is using as entry-level the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making either 184 horsepower. The more powerful T5 comes with the same engine, which produces 248 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive.

The eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on both models, offering very smooth shifting. It is also worth mentioning that the XC40’s towing capacity is one of the best among subcompact-luxury crossovers handling 3500 pounds. For those who may not know, the manufacturer also offers an all-electric XC40 Recharge model. This version uses two electric motors and a 78-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It produces 402 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque, and it can travel up to 223 miles when it is fully charged.
