So far, both generation of Audi’s mid-size SUV has been characterized by very long production cycles. The original model was in production for a full decade, while the current generation has just entered the eighth production year. So, it’s not hard to conclude that it’s about time to see some changes. Of course, the company from Ingolstadt is perfectly aware of these issues, so the next-generation model is already in the advanced stage of development. The latest reports suggest it will hit the market as the 2024 Audi Q7.

The next-generation Q7 will be special in many ways. It will be the last Q7 with internal-combustion engines, while the successor will definitely go all-electric. That’s why we probably won’t be seeing any radical changes. Instead, the German manufacturer will bring up the evolution of the current design, with a lot of similarities to the current model, but also with lots of upgrades.

2024 Audi Q7 Redesign

The 2024 Audi Q7 is expected to receive a complete redesign and as we already mentioned, changes probably won’t be radical. Instead, most of them will be evolutionary. This particularly refers to the platform, which will remain the same.

Of course, we are talking about the good-old MLB architecture, which has been the basis for numerous VAG models for a long time. In this case, we expect to see several modifications and upgrades, and that particularly refers to the chassis and suspension setup. We are about to see a new version of air suspension, which will be standard in all models and which should improve handling and overall ride quality. Also, improvements in terms of weight reduction and lower center of gravity are on the table.

Exterior

Like it was already mentioned, the current generation has been in production since 2015. Despite the updates, that is way too long for such a competitive segment. So, it’s no wonder that the outgoing model looks a little bit outdated, especially when compared to key rivals – BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

That’s why we have big expectations from the new model. We expect to see completely new aesthetics, probably influenced by e-tron models in some portions. Still, we have no doubt that Audi designers will stick with their recognizable philosophy, which is mostly about elegant lines and conservative design solutions.

In terms of dimensions, we don’t expect to see any significant changes, though the new model might get slightly bigger. For reference, the current generation features 117.9 inches in wheelbase and nearly 199 inches in total length. It is 77.5 inches wide and 68.5 inches high.

Interior

Although older than most of its rivals, the current Q7 looks impressive from the inside. This company has always been praised for elegant and quality interiors and this crossover is a perfect example. It combines conservative aesthetical solutions with high-tech features and super-fine materials, as such a combination works great.

So, we are pretty sure that the next-generation 2024 Audi Q7 will bring mostly evolutionary changes. We count on further improvements regarding materials and attention to detail, while the should be even more advanced tech features.

Despite the praise, the current model isn’t without flaws. While the first two rows are spacious and comfortable, the third row is tight. While that’s a rather typical thing for the segment and not exactly a big issue, the cargo area is definitely one of the weakest points of this SUV. It features one of the smallest cargo capacities in the class. Therefore, we hope that things will get better after the redesign.

2024 Audi Q7 Engines

The 2024 Audi Q7 will be the last generation with internal-combustion engines before we see all-electric powertrains. We count on a pretty wide range of powertrain options and many of the current units should carry over, with some modifications, of course. That particularly refers to gasoline models, which should old come with a mild-hybrid system.

We expect to see versions with four, six, and eight cylinders on offer. We also expect to see plug-in hybrids. The current generation is available with two such powertrains. Both are based on a V6 engine and feature 376 or 450 horsepower. Of course, we would expect the new generation to bring some upgrades, not just in terms of power, but also in terms of the battery, EV range etc.

All models should come with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, while the company’s legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system will be standard in all configurations.

2024 Audi Q7 Release Date and Price

We are still waiting for the officials to come up with details but if we can trust rumors, the next-generation 2024 Audi Q7 could arrive already in the second half of the next year. The current model starts at around 60.000 dollars, so we presume that the redesign could also bring a slight price increase. Models like BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90 will remain key competitors.
