For years, the Ingolstadt company has been hesitating to enter the “big guys” game and compete with its arch-rivals in the segment of full-size SUVs. Mercedes-Benz has been in this segment for a very long time, while the Bavarian rival joined a few years ago with the X7. So, we all wonder if this will be Audi’s next move, to introduce the 2024 Audi Q9. This model has been an object of rumors and speculations for years but it looks like the company was never serious about this model, until now. Allegedly, this SUV is in the advanced stage of development and it could arrive already in the next year.

One of the things that come to mind about the 2024 Audi Q9 is electrification. Many wonders if this SUV would come with an all-electric powertrain but the latest reports clearly indicate that Audi plans another generation of ICE vehicles of models like Q7, Q5 etc. That’s a pretty clear indicator that the new full-size would go in the same direction.

What Will 2024 Audi Q9 Look Like?

Now, that we have concluded that the 2024 Audi Q9 will feature internal-combustion engines, it’s much easier to predict some design and technical solutions. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Naturally, this model would ride on the updated version of MLB architecture, which would be notably stretched for this occasion. Furthermore, we would expect to see a new suspension setup, even more refined than the already-amazing setup of the Q7, which offers a butter-smooth ride.

Naturally, the updated platform would be a great starting point for the implementation of advanced technologies. The new flagship SUV may not come with an all-electric setup but it will certainly come with an electrified powertrain. For example, we could see the next generation of plug-in hybrid systems, while more basic models could feature mild-hybrid setups.

Exterior

When it comes to exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is size. This will be a full-size crossover, so it’s normal to expect notably bigger dimensions compared to the mid-size Q7. We estimate that the wheelbase would go around 122 inches. That would ensure plenty of legroom inside the cabin for sure.

In terms of aesthetics, we presume that the new flagship model would establish a new design language. At this point, it’s early to talk about details but we presume that the front end could take some inspiration from the all-electric e-tron. On the other hand, the overall body style would come in a typical wagon-like manner, as a kind of emphasized Q7 design.

2024 Audi Q9 Interior

Audi designers have always been praised for their interiors. This company practices conservative aesthetical solutions, which work great in a combination with top-notch tech features. We expect the same approach in the 2024 Audi Q9 but, as we are talking about the new flagship model, things like the build quality and materials should be at an even higher level. Also, we have no doubt that Audi’s design team will do a great job once again.

We already talked about the wheelbase and the benefits. The Q9 wouldn’t be the first three-row SUV in Audi’s portfolio but would be the first one to accommodate adults with ease in that part of the cabin. Namely, the Q7 features a pretty tight third row, even by the standards of a mid-size SUV. Naturally, the first two rows would offer even greater comfort, with plenty of passenger room, comfortable seats and all kinds of convenience features. Besides convenience, we also have big expectations in terms of technology, in terms of things like massive screens, various connectivity features and more.

Engines and Specs, E-Tron Platform

We have established that the new 2024 Audi Q9 would feature internal-combustion engines but most of them would probably get help from a mild-hybrid system. If we look at X7’s and GLS’s powertrain range, we can easily see what are the segment standards and expect base models with a 3.0-liter turbo V6. Higher trim levels would come with Audi’s well-known 4.0-liter twin-turbo, which is currently available in several iterations. The most powerful version of the engine would be reserved for the RS Q7, with over 600 horsepower.

Of course, we also count on plug-in hybrid powertrains. The Q7 already comes with a couple of these units, both based on a V6 engine. On the other hand, the flagship SUV could also use a hybrid powertrain from Porsche Cayenne, which is based on a V8 engine and offers monstrous power.

All units would probably come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmissions.

2024 Audi Q9 Release Date and Price

The 2024 Audi Q9 still waits for official confirmation but if we can trust rumors, it could arrive already in about a year or so. If it arrives, we presume that the base price would go around 75-80.000 dollars.
