Buick is currently in the process of the lineup renovation and that process will include a variety of novelties, including several brand-new models. One of them will be the 2024 Buick Envision GX. Namely, the company recently filed a trademark for this nameplate, so we presume it will offer a little bit different design compared to the “standard” Envision. At this point, details are still unknown but we presume that the relationship could be similar to one between Encore and Encore GX.
The first thing that comes to mind about this model is the size, which should be slightly bigger. We also count on a full load of novelties regarding platform, powertrain etc. Styling is another thing that comes to mind and we expect that some sort of a new design language is about to be established.
Although the officials are still quiet, many believe that the brand-new 2024 Buick Envision GX could arrive already in the next year.
2024 Buick Envision GX Redesign
So far, Buick officials have been very successful in keeping details about this model a secret. The only thing we know for sure is that the Envision GX trademark now exists officially. Other than that, it’s all about rumors and speculations. So, let’s start with them and see what the possibilities are for the 2024 Buick Envision GX.
At this point, one of the things that come to mind is the relationship of Encore and Encore GX. The GX model is newer, slightly bigger and more upscale, so we may expect the same thing in this case. By newer, we are thinking about the complete design, starting from the new platform. While the Envision rides on the familiar E2 platform, the Envision GX would ride on the new VSS platform, the one that already underpins the new Encore GX and is expected to underpin the whole GM lineup in the future.
We are talking about the VSS-F iteration of the architecture, so the front-wheel drive and a transversally-mounted engine should be some of the key points of the new design.
Of course, a completely new exterior design is another thing that comes to mind. The new styling should look bolder and more aggressive. Some inspiration will be taken from the Encore GX, but we also expect to see a full load of new aesthetical solutions, as we are talking about a bigger vehicle.
Speaking of the size, we have no doubt this model will be notably bigger than the standard Envision. If we consider that the standard Envision features a little bit over 109 inches in wheelbase and that the mid-size Enclave is good for nearly 121 inches, there is a pretty big gap that the 2024 Buick Envision GX will have to fill. So, we expect dimensions that are pretty close to the mid-size segment, but still just a couple of rows of seats.
So, the seating configuration should remain typical for the segment. We expect to see two rows of seats, with the capacity to accommodate five passengers. Considering the expected wheelbase, we presume that both rows will be able to accommodate adults with ease, while the cargo area should offer respectable capacity as well.
We already mentioned that this should be a more upscale crossover than the standard Envision, so we expect to see a nicer cabin, with nicer materials, better build quality and more tech features. With these improvements, we presume that Buick would finally become able to compete with premium rivals.
2024 Buick Envision GX Engines
We’ve just mentioned that the new 2024 Buick Envision GX will feature an FF layout, with a transversally-mounted engine and a front-wheel drive, though we wouldn’t be surprised if we see an AWD setup as a part of standard equipment. When it comes to engines, we presume that the base models would come with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, with around 228 horsepower. However, we don’t expect this to be the sole powertrain option.
The upgrade could come in the form of a well-known 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower. We could even see something more modern, like GM’s 2.7-liter turbo-four, which currently powers only pickup trucks. This engine is available in various configurations and all of them offer significantly more torque than the naturally-aspirated V6.
When it comes to transmission, we don’t expect bigger surprises. All engines should come in pairs with an updated 9-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Buick Envision GX Release Date and Price
We expect the 2024 Buick Envision GX to arrive already in the next year, though it’s still early to talk about a more precise date. It’s also early to talk about the price, but we presume that Buick will aim at more affordable premium compact crossovers like Acura RDX or Infitini QX50, so the price should be similar to those models.
