The segment of three-row SUVs is more competitive than ever and that’s why GM is already working on the next generation of Chevy’s three-row Traverse. The new generation is expected to arrive already as the 2024 Chevy Traverse, even though the mid-cycle refresh was done just a year ago. Simply, Chevy needs a more competitive machine, which will offer much more than just a spacious cabin.
Allegedly, the new generation will have so many great things to offer. At this point, we know for sure it will ride on a new platform. Unofficial reports also suggest lots of new tech features, whether it’s about infotainment technology or advanced driver aids. Naturally, we count on aesthetics, as well as a much nicer interior design. On the other hand, the current V6 will probably carry on without bigger modifications.
If we can trust the latest reports, the 2024 Chevy Traverse will arrive already in the second half of 2023.
2024 Chevy Traverse Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, this redesign is expected to bring a lot of new things, which should help Traverse be more competitive in the demanding market. The first thing to mention is the platform. The old C1 architecture will be replaced with the new one, VSS. More precisely, it is the VSS-F platform, which means that the new model will keep the FF layout, with a transversally mounted engine and front-wheel-drive as standard.
The new platform should bring various improvements, starting with better ride quality. The current model offers a decent level of comfort but it isn’t particularly engaging to drive. This should change a little bit with the new model, though we have no doubt that comfort will once again be a priority. The new platform will also open up a whole spectrum of possibilities regarding new technologies. This refers to various things, such as new powertrain options, new driver-assistance systems and more.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, we presume that dimensions are about to remain similar to the current generation. The current model already features nearly 121 inches in wheelbase and it is one of the biggest models in the class. That’s why the size increase could only be minor.
On the other hand, we count on a completely new styling. At this point, things are still unknown but we expect that the new model will bring a bolder and more aggressive appearance. We count on more muscles and a more aggressive front-end design. The rest of the vehicle should follow the same design philosophy.
Interior
The generous cabin space has always been Traverse’s strongest point. There aren’t many three-row SUVs that can keep up with this one in terms of passenger legroom and overall comfort, which is no wonder if we consider that the current generation measures nearly 121 inches in wheelbase. Even the third row accommodates adults pretty easily. So, we are pretty sure that things won’t change much in this aspect.
On the other hand, the current model comes with one pretty weak point and that’s the interior quality. The dashboard doesn’t look particularly attractive, while most of the cabin is wrapped with low-rent materials. Even the amount of tech features aren’t particularly generous, so we expect significant improvements from the 2024 Chevy Traverse. We count on much more attractive aesthetics, as well as much better overall build quality, with nicer materials and more attention to detail. Finally, we expect to see lots of new tech features, including goodies like a massive infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and many more.
2024 Chevy Traverse Engines
As we already mentioned, the new platform will bring a lot of new possibilities and this also includes new powertrain options. The first thing that comes to mind is electrification and it’s no wonder that various sources suggest the new Traverse with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
However, base models will probably continue with a familiar 3.6-liter V6, which currently puts out around 310 horsepower. The new generation might get a few more horses, as well as a new transmission. The current 9-speed unit works okay, but the new one would improve performance, and efficiency and make the ride smoother. Speaking of fuel economy, we don’t expect to see significant improvements compared to the current generation. The current model returns around 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which are typical ratings for the segment.
2024 Chevy Traverse Release Date and Price
The next-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse still waits for official confirmation, so it’s hard to predict a more precise date. Still, we believe that the new model could arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The current model starts at around 36.000 dollars but we presume that the new generation will cost a little bit more. The competition remains the same, with key competitors like Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Palisade etc.
