Big changes are coming from the 2024 GMC Acadia, which is about to receive a complete redesign. The next generation of the popular three-row SUV will get back to the full-size segment, as it will come with much bigger dimensions but that won’t be the only change on the new model. Among many upgrades, we could also see a more powerful turbo-four, which would replace the good-old V6, as well as a new transmission.

This will be a complete overhaul, which will bring a completely new platform. Along with bigger dimensions, the new model should also bring bolder and more aggressive styling. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and it looks like it’s in a pretty advanced stage of development. We expect it to arrive sometime in the second half of the next year. Just like the current model, it should be produced in the Michigan plant.

2024 GMC Acadia Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 GMC Acadia is about to get a full redesign. One of the first things to talk about is the platform. The new model will replace the C1 architecture for the new VSS platform. More precisely, it will ride on the VSS-F platform, which means that the new generation will continue with the FF layout, with a transversally-mounted engine and front-wheel drive. Of course, all-wheel drive will be available.

This redesign will bring various novelties in terms of mechanics and one of them should be the new chassis and suspension. At this point, we don’t know much but we presume the new model could come with a more refined setup, which would improve the ride quality notably. We count on a more engaging ride, but on a high level of comfort as well.

Exterior

Probably the biggest change of this redesign will come in terms of dimensions. The previous redesign brought significantly smaller dimensions and it looks like the 2024 GMC Acadia will get back to the roots and compete in the full-size segment again. We presume that the size will be the same or very similar to the Chevy Traverse, which is also about to receive a full redesign in the next year. The wheelbase should go over 121 inches in wheelbase, which would ensure plenty of space on the inside.

Of course, we are also about to see the new styling. At this point, the test mule still wears camouflage but we have no doubt that the new model will look bolder and more aggressive than the current version. We have no doubt that a lot of inspiration will be taken from models like Yukon and Sierra.

Interior

The upcoming redesign will also bring a lot of novelties to the inside. We count on a completely new interior design, which will bring improvements regarding aesthetics, build quality, features etc. The first thing to mention is the dashboard design, which should look more modern and utilize nicer materials. Furthermore, we expect to see lots of new tech features, including a massive infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster and other things, designed in a similar manner to units found in the new Yukon and recently updated Sierra.

The biggest issue of the current generation is the tight third row. Fortunately, this will change with the upcoming redesign. The next generation will feature a significantly longer wheelbase, as we already mentioned. Therefore, the third row should be much more generous with space, while the first two rows should offer additional comfort as well. Naturally, the cargo area should be more spacious too.

2024 GMC Acadia Engines

There are a lot of possibilities for the new powertrain lineup. As we already mentioned, the 2024 GMC Acadia will continue with the FF layout. So, there is a big chance to see two familiar units carry over. Currently, base models come with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 230 horsepower. Higher trim levels come with a smoother and more capable 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower.

While these two engines could carry over, some sources also speculate about the addition of a 2.7-liter turbo-four. This engine comes in several variants regarding powertrain but the most common is the one that puts out around 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.

Besides the new engine option, some sources speculate about the new transmission. Allegedly, the current 9-speed unit could be replaced with a new 10-speed automatic, which would offer a smoother ride, faster shifts and better efficiency.

2024 GMC Acadia Release Date and Price

The next-generation 2024 GMC Acadia is in an advanced stage of development and we expect to see it on the market sometime in the second half of 2023. At this point, it’s still early to talk about the price. Still, we presume that the base version could come pretty close to the 40k mark. When it comes to the competition, key rivals should be models like Hyundai Palisade, Nissan Pathfinder, VW Atlas etc.
