The Japanese carmaker is currently in the process of renewing its complete SUV lineup. The new CX-50 already arrived, while the three-row CX-90 will hit the market later this year. The company also prepares a new model, which will be called CX-70 and which will be slotted between these two. Essentially, it will be a two-row mid-size crossover, slightly bigger compared to the European-market CX-60. We expect to see it in the second half of the year, as the 2024 Mazda CX-70.
For now, the company is doing its best to keep details about it a secret. However, we have no reason to believe that the overall design approach could be significantly different compared to the upcoming CX-90. Just like the three-row SUV, it will benefit from the company’s new platform, which brings a lot of new technical solutions, along with new powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid.
As for the 2024 Mazda CX-70 release date, we are pretty sure it will happen in the last quarter of the year.
2024 Mazda CX-70 Design
So, the first thing to talk about would be the design and in this aspect, there is a full batch of new things to come, starting from the new platform. Just like the CX-90, the new 2024 Mazda CX-70 will be based on the company’s new platform, which brings some substantial changes when compared to the previous Mazda platform. It all starts with the base layout, which will be changed completely. In practice, this means that the new SUV will feature a longitudinally mounted engine, while this platform is essentially rear-wheel-drive biased. In this particular case, as are talking about an SUV, all-wheel drive will most likely be part of the standard equipment.
The new platform will bring a full load of new possibilities and, essentially, we expect that Mazda will deliver an even better handling and driving experience, even though the previous models are already amazing in this aspect.
As for the exterior design, the first thing to talk about is the size, as this is going to be a brand-new model on the U.S. market. From what we know so far, this model will sit between the CX-50 and CX-90, so we presume that the wheelbase, as well as the overall dimensions, will be halfway. Essentially, this will be a mid-size crossover with two rows of seats.
In terms of aesthetics, we presume that Mazda will implement its latest design language, something that has been introduced with the European-market CX-60. The 2024 Mazda CX-70 should come with a pretty similar front end, with very similar headlights, grille and other parts of the front face. As for the rest of the body, we count on slightly bigger dimensions and a little bit more muscular stance.
As mentioned, although a mid-size crossover, this will be a two-row vehicle, with a capacity of five passengers. We presume that both rows will be generous enough to accommodate adults with ease, while the cargo area should offer decent volume, even though Mazda has never been known for making the most practical vehicles in the class.
On the other hand, Mazda has become famous for its premium interior design, which utilizes high-quality materials and combines them with a lot of attention to detail. The 2024 Mazda CX-70 Interior shouldn’t be any different, so we count on an elegant dashboard design, in a combination with advanced tech features.
Speaking of the tech features, we presume that the massive 12.3-inch infotainment screen should be standard in all models, along with a digital instrument cluster and various connectivity features, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
2024 Mazda CX-70 Engines
One of the biggest benefits of the new platform will be the introduction of new powertrain options. More precisely, we are most excited about the new 3.3-liter inline-six, which will bring a pretty respectable max output of 340 horsepower. Also, the new engine will come with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.
Besides the super-smooth inline-six, we also count on a plug-in hybrid version. That model should feature pretty much the same powertrain as the aforementioned European-market CX-60, which is based on a 2.5-liter inline-four engine. The engine comes coupled with an electric motor and a massive battery pack, so the total system output goes all-away up to 323 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Moreover, the large battery also ensures up to 39 miles of range in the EV mode, which is just a few miles fewer compared to the RAV4 Prime.
2024 Mazda CX-70 Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the 2024 Mazda CX-70 should arrive sometime in the last quarter of this year, while a more precise date is yet to be specified. Although the officials are still quiet, some sources speculate about the starting price of around 38.000 dollars.
