The current generation of the company’s flagship SUV has been around since late 2019 and it looks like it’s time for a refresh. From what we can see, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh and rumors suggest comprehensive updates. What’s believed to be a rendered photo of the updated model appeared on the network a few days ago and it shows some subtle styling changes. Other reports also speculate about interior changes, while other kinds of changes are in the game as well.

Still, the overall design will remain the same, so we don’t expect that the model’s nature could change. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS will remain one of the most luxurious SUVs on the market, characterized by a gentle ride, luxurious interior, excellent sound insulation and many other goodies.

Considering the updates, the launch date might be scheduled a little bit earlier than usual.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh and some CGI renderings already appeared on the network. Interestingly, the image shows a GLS without wheels but we can clearly see that the grille features a little bit different patent, while the front bumper has been reshaped too. Although we can’t see anything from behind, we presume that the rear end could get a few subtle changes as well. Of course, typical mid-cycle updates are also expected, in terms of new wheels, new color options etc.

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger mechanical changes. The suspension setup should remain mostly the same, just like the chassis. So, you may count on a super-smooth ride, which absorbs road imperfection in such an elegant way but remains pretty composed as well. Few rivals can match this large SUV in terms of comfort.

Interior

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS interior changes are about to come. Although the officials are still quiet, we presume that the updated model could go in the same direction GLE did. This means that most of the dashboard would remain the same. On the other hand, we would see new infotainment software, though the screen size would probably remain the same. Furthermore, we would expect to see a new steering wheel, along with various updates in terms of standard and available equipment.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. Base models will come with three rows of seats, while the second-row captain’s chairs will be available. Finally, the Maybach version features just two rows of seats.

When it comes to the cargo area, you may count on 17.4 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 42.7 to 48.7 cubic feet behind the second row, and 84.7 cubic feet in total. These are decent numbers but still far behind American rivals like Cadillac Escalade or Lincoln Navigator.

Features

Of course, we expect this update to bring novelties in terms of standard and available equipment as well. We already mentioned the new infotainment software but on the other hand, the screen size should remain the same. We could say the same thing for the digital instrument cluster.

In any case, the list of standard equipment should become longer. The current model comes standard with goodies like a 12.3-inch touch screen, a touchpad controller, navigation, voice command, a 13-speaker Burmester stereo, Bluetooth, nine USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio, wireless device charging, an in-car communication system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, quad-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and a parking damage detector.

We presume that some of the current options could become standard. Some of the potential candidates are the MBUX interior assistant, a 7-inch MBUX tablet for the second row, a 27-speaker Burmester audio system, second-row wireless device charging, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a sunroof, five-zone automatic climate control, and remote start

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see significant changes under the hood, though some of the engines could come with a slight power upgrade. The current model comes standard with a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six, which puts out around 362 horsepower. The rest of the lineup is based on a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which comes in three iterations in this case. The first one is the GLS 580, with 483 horsepower. The AMG GLS 63 is good for 603 horsepower, while there is also a super-luxurious variant with the Maybach badge, which features a max output of 550 horsepower.

All models come coupled with a 9-speed automatic and standard all-wheel-drive. Some sources also speculate about the new hybrid powertrain, but the officials have been quiet on this matter so far.

Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 82.000 dollars.
