Following some significant updates, the 2024 Subaru Outback will be on sale next year. Due to its high ride height and tough exterior, this SUV mixes in well with other models, but its station wagon form gives it additional usefulness.
In general, the Outback has much better off-road capability than a typical station wagon or SUVs such as the rugged Ford Broncos or Jeep Wranglers. A four-cylinder engine with or without a turbocharger is available to customers, but all Outbacks come standard with all-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Despite having similar looks to rivals like the Volvo V60 Cross Country and Audi A4 Allroad, the Outback delivers a raised station wagon shape and it features a very comfy interior.
2024 Subaru Outback Redesign
The 2024 Subaru Outback gets a style upgrade, except for the Wilderness variant. This gives the front end, particularly the updated headlights, a crisper appearance. The sides of the Outback are heavily covered in plastic cladding, which moves it away from the appearance of a station wagon and toward that of a typical SUV.
The ride height of the Wilderness is 9.5 inches, which is higher than the ordinary Outback’s 8.7 inches. In general, this is still good for a gravel road. A matte black hood decal and bumpers customized for the trim are also included.
The new 2024 Subaru Outback features a luxurious interior with plenty of room. Additionally, it sports a roomy rear seat with 1.4 inches more legroom than the previous model, and it can carry 11 carry-on bags with the back seat up and 23 bags with it folded flat. Every Outback features several USB ports, heated front seats, dual-zone temperature control, and heated front seats. At higher price levels, you’ll get luxury options such as a heated steering wheel, vented front seats, a motorized passenger seat, and heated rear seats.
It is also worth noting that it has one large 11.6-inch vertically oriented touchscreen on upper trims, while the base model has two stacked 7.0-inch touchscreens. As for standard connectivity, it offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as built-in navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The top Limited and Touring trims adds a mighty 12-speaker, 576-watt Harman/Kardon audio system.
2024 Subaru Outback Engine Specs
The 2024 Subaru Outback offers the same two flat-four-cylinder engines. The base model is powered by a 2.5-liter making 182 horsepower. However, you can still get an optional 2.4-liter powertrain with 260 horsepower. Both engines come with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that looks like an eight-speed gearbox.
On top of that, all Outback’s come standard with all-wheel drive. According to the EPA, the current regular Outback will get 33 mpg on the interstate and 26 mpg in the city. With ratings of 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, the turbocharged version gets much worse gas mileage.
2024 Subaru Outback Price and Release Date
The base 2024 Subaru Outback is $28,000 plus a destination fee. The Onyx Edition XT, which retails for roughly $36,000, is the first vehicle in the series to include a turbocharged engine. The Touring XT trim of the Wilderness, which is the most expensive model, is closer to $42K.
Some top competitors have a lower starting point. For instance, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V both cost around $1,000 less. However, all-wheel drive is not a standard feature.
