Tesla’s compact crossover was introduced just a few years ago and it already established an excellent position on the market. Not only that it is the most popular model in the company’s lineup, but it also looks comparable with the most popular compact ICE crossovers. That’s why we are eagerly waiting for what’s next to come in terms of novelties – the 2024 Tesla Model Y. So far, we know that the company is working on a new battery, which will feature higher energy density and provide an even better range than the current model.
Other than the new battery and increased range, the 2024 Tesla Model Y will probably come with familiar design characteristics. The two familiar versions will carry on, with excellent performance, class-leading range, spacious cabin and a long list of standard safety features. On the other hand, things like subpar interior quality and distracting infotainment system will remain some of the key drawbacks.
We expect that the 2024 Tesla Model Y will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Tesla Model Y Gets New Battery and Longer Range
Without any doubt, the biggest novelty for the next year will be the introduction of the new battery, which will feature 4680 cells. Thanks to the higher energy density, the new battery will provide a 20% longer range compared to the current Long Range model. In numbers, that would mean nearly 400 miles on a single charge. On the other hand, details about the performance are still unavailable.
On the other hand, the two current models will continue in the same way. Considering that the base version has been discontinued, the most affordable will be the Long Range model. That variant offers 330 miles of range, while the electric motors are capable enough to ensure 0-60 sprint in about 4.5 seconds.
The Performance trim will continue with more capable electric motors, which will ensure pretty impressive acceleration and 0-60 spring in just 3.5 seconds. However, this model features a slightly shorter range, around 303 miles on a single charge.
2024 Tesla Model Y Design
Despite some notable technical upgrades, the overall design will remain the same. Therefore, the 2024 Tesla Model Y will continue with a familiar design, which has a lot in common with the Model 3. The two models use the same platform and feature pretty similar dimensions. Most of the mechanics are the same, so it’s no wonder that the ride quality is also pretty similar. Still, the Model Y brings slightly more body lean, due to the higher ground clearance. Still, the overall level of athleticism is pretty impressive for a vehicle of this type and, as a trade-off, the ride seems a little bit firm.
The same thing is with aesthetics. The 2024 Tesla Model Y will continue with the same styling, which has a lot of things in common with the Model 3. This crossover is characterized by sleek and elegant lines, so we have no doubt it is going to age pretty well.
On the inside, the 2024 Tesla Model Y will continue to offer one of the most spacious cabins in the compact SUV segment. Despite the class, this crossover features three rows of seats and even though the third row isn’t particularly spacious, it is quite functional. The first and the second row, on the other hand, are very spacious and comfortable.
The cabin looks pretty futuristic, thanks to the minimalistic dashboard design. The dash features a super-clean design, with a massive touchscreen that replaces pretty much all physical controls. The materials are mostly fine but the overall build quality isn’t at the level you would expect from a premium crossover.
We presume that the 2024 Tesla Model Y could come with some novelties regarding standard equipment but we are also pretty sure that most things are about to remain the same. The current model already comes fully loaded with standard equipment. Some of the highlights are goodies like a 15-inch touch screen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD Radio, a 14-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, four USB ports, wireless device charging, automatic climate control, keyless entry, and a panoramic sunroof.
The same thing is with safety features. Base models will come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rearview camera, parking sensors, road-sign recognition, automatic high beams etc. Among the few upgrades you can get, we should mention things like hands-free park assist, Navigate on Autopilot etc.
2024 Tesla Model Y Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Tesla Model Y will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, probably in the last quarter. The starting price should go around 67.000 dollars, while models like Cadillac Lyriq, Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace will remain some of the key competitors.
