Last year, Toyota’s largest SUV finally received a full redesign, after 15 years of the previous generation being in production. The same happened to the Land Cruiser, which is not available in the US anymore. As expected, the changes were significant in so many aspects, and the new model shows massive improvements in so many ways. Therefore, it’s pretty easy to predict that the next year’s model won’t bring more significant changes. This would refer both to the standard, and off-road-oriented 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, but some sources speculate about the new powertrain option, which makes this SUV more appealing to all those drivers who don’t have the idea of driving such a massive SUV with a hybrid powertrain.
Namely, we can hear the rumors about this SUV getting a gasoline version, which would be slightly more affordable and slightly less powerful than the hybrid model. Other than that, the TRD Pro model should carry on in the same way, featuring a familiar layout and familiar exclusive features, which aren’t just in terms of off-road upgrades, but also in terms of aesthetics.
Despite the potential updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro could hit the market much earlier than usual.
2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Revisit
As mentioned, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro will represent the second production year of the new generation and that’s why we don’t believe that more important changes could happen. Instead, we count on the same exclusive features, which make this model the most capable variant of Sequoia, at least when it comes to off-roading.
Compared to standard models, the most important upgrades are those in terms of off-road hardware. Some of the highlights are standard four-wheel drive, locking rear differential, Fox front coliovers and remote reservoir rear shocks, skidplates, front stabilizer bar etc. As for the aesthetics, the most prominent is the black grille with an integrated light bar, as well as unique 18-wheels that come in a combination with 33-inch all-terrain tires.
Interior
On the inside, this model also comes with a couple of exclusive features, starting from the unique color scheme, which looks great in a combination with synthetic leather upholstery. Furthermore, the cabin is full of ’’TRD Pro“ badges, while you can also find things like a unique, leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with the fancy-looking red engine start button.
Other than that, things are pretty much the same as in standard models. The overall interior quality is pretty good – the materials are fine, while the attention to detail is also at a pretty high level. Of course, three rows of seats are part of the standard equipment and while the front and second-row seats are very generous, the third row is tight and features a little bit awkward seating position, because of the battery pack. Hopefully, this will change if the company introduces a gasoline version, which would allow the installment of better third-row seats and also increase the cargo capacity.
2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Is Getting New Powertrain!?
If we can trust rumors, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro could easily get a new powertrain option. Allegedly, the Japanese carmaker is preparing a more basic version, which would feature a twin-turbo-V6 engine only. Of course, we are talking about the 3.4-liter unit, which puts out around 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Just like the hybrid model, this one would also come with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel-drive system.
The hybrid version would carry on without changes, of course. So, you may count on a system that combines a turbocharged V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a single electric motor and a 1.87-kWh battery pack. The combined output goes around 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, which makes the Sequoia one of the peppiest models in the class.
Features
The TRD Pro may refer to a rugged off-road nature, but such a Sequoia is still a family hauler and, therefore, it comes with a long list of standard equipment. With this model, you may count on a standard 14-inch touchscreen, which comes along with navigation, satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration etc. The list of standard equipment also includes goodies like a Wi-FI hotspot, wireless charging, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and many more.
Also, there is a pretty generous offer of advanced safety and driver-assistance features, which includes goodies like surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition and many more.
2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro Release Date and Price
Despite the potential updates, we don’t expect to see the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro before fall. On the other hand, the new gasoline version could make this SUV more affordable. At this point, the Hybrid version starts at around 78.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like GMC Yukon AT4, Chevy Tahoe Z71 etc.
